First day of 2011 Labatt Blue/USAHockey Pond Hockey National Championships. This is the biggest outdoor hockey competition in the US, played on 24 rinks on Dollar Lake in Eagle River, Wisconsin. This year the competition has 250 teams and 1,700 players, from 25 states plus Austrian and Japan. The event is sponsored by Labatt (brewery), but does not make money, as it is simply a venue for people to play outdoor hockey. The competition is for men and women age 21 and over, with teams separated into groups by sex, age and level of play. Competition started here in 2006 with 40 teams.
